What can I expect at the Little Relaxation Room?
Your Consultation
At your initial treatment I will conduct a thorough consultation, asking questions about your symptoms if any, lifestyle, diet and medical history. This will help me to create a personal treatment plan to benefit your whole body. This consultation also allows me to assess if there are any contraindications or restrictions to your treatment.
If you are currently under the care of a Doctor for a particular medical condition it may be necessary to either seek permission to treat you from your Doctor or alternatively I will request that you sign a Consent Form.
There are also a small number of medical conditions that a Reflexologist should not treat and if this is the case this will be discussed during the consultation process. After your initial treatment and the consultation your specific needs will be clear, which will make it possible to establish the important reflexes to be concentrated on in the future.
Your Treatment For foot reflexology you will lie on your back on a height adjustable massage table with only your shoes and socks removed. You will be made comfortable with a blanket and soft music and additional pillows to support you if required.
For hand reflexology you will sit opposite me with your hands outstretched on a pillow placed on a table. Again you will be made comfortable before the treatment begins.
After examining and cleansing your feet or hands, the treatment will begin with some relaxation techniques before starting to stimulate the relevant reflex points using a special thumb and finger-walking method. Aromatherapy oils may be diffused in the room to aid relaxation and increase your senses. Relaxing music can be played if required, however you may just prefer the silence. You may wish to close your eyes and relax or you might prefer to chat during your treatment, this is of course entirely up to you.
How long does a Reflexology Treatment take?
Your first appointment due to the consultation will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes longer than any subsequent treatments.
A complete foot reflexology treatment will usually last around one hour.
A complete hand reflexology treatment will usually last around 30 minutes.
What will I Feel?
Pain is not gain in Reflexology, however, tender spots will indicate areas that need extra attention. Pressure similar to that in regular massage should be ‘strong but not uncomfortable. Many of my clients have fallen asleep during treatments. If at any time you find the treatment painful please tell me, as it is important that I work within your comfort zone.
How many Treatments will I need?
For a long term ailment it is generally recommended that an initial course of 6 to 8 weekly treatments is considered followed by once or twice monthly treatments to maintain a sense of balance and well-being. However, the frequency of treatments is up to you and may vary depending on your state of health and long term objectives. For this reason I offer a variety of packages.
The benefit of having treatments on a regular basis will be that you can help build up your immune system and increase your inner strength thus keeping your body working more efficiently. You will feel less stressed and sleep better and your general physical and emotional heath and well being will remain improved. I can also teach you some hand reflexology techniques that you can use anytime and in-between treatments.
What Can I expect after my Treatment?
When the treatment is complete it is very likely that you will be extremely relaxed and a bit sleepy. I will encourage you to take your time sitting up and will offer you a glass of water whilst I discuss any sensitive areas with you. I will also give you some after care advice so you can continue to maximize the benefits of your treatment.
A Professional Reflexologist will not claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe.
If necessary I will also take the time to show you some hand reflexology techniques you can practice on yourself. An after care advice sheet will be given to you to take home.
Are there any side effects?
Most people find reflexology very relaxing and sleep well following a treatment. It is not uncommon for certain conditions to temporarily worsen for up to 48 hours as the body adjusts and begins its natural healing process.
Immediately after a treatment you may feel tired, light-headed, relaxed, invigorated or weepy; have tender feet; feel the need to visit the toilet more often or have runny eyes or nose. These are all perfectly normal reactions. I will encourage you to drink plenty of water to help the body to flush out unwanted toxins and provide you with an after care advice sheet after your treatment.
If you are concerned about any possible side effects please do not hesitate to contact me.
